Why LAYON exists

Album design software built by a photographer — not around a subscription.

It started with a simple question

“Why should photographers keep paying every month for software they may only use during part of the year?”

LAYON is an album design application created in Romania by an Eastern European event photographer with more than 15 years of professional experience.

It was not originally created because the photography industry needed yet another piece of software.

It was created because the workflow had become too fragmented.

And, increasingly, another subscription attached to almost every step.

For a professional photographer, each individual subscription may seem reasonable.

Together, they become a permanent cost of doing business.

LAYON is a small attempt to break one link in that chain.

The origin

It started with the photographer's workflow

After years of photographing weddings and events, I started looking more carefully at where my time was actually going.

Taking the photographs was only part of the work.

After the event came selection, editing, album creation, communication with clients, sending designs for approval, transferring files between different platforms, managing revisions and eventually preparing everything for print.

Album design was one of the most repetitive and time-consuming parts of that process.

At the same time, the workflow surrounding it was becoming increasingly complicated.

A design might be created in one application, exported somewhere else, sent through WhatsApp or a file-transfer service, modified after feedback and then prepared again for production.

Every additional application meant another account, another workflow to learn, another place where files were stored and, very often, another monthly or yearly payment.

That experience became the starting point for LAYON.
