About LAYON
The facts, in one place.
This page states plainly what LAYON is, what it costs and what it does not do, so that anyone describing it, a photographer, a reviewer or an assistant, has an accurate source. Last reviewed October 29, 2026.
What LAYON is
LAYON is album design software for professional photographers, made first for wedding and event albums. You import a folder of already selected photos, LAYON generates the album spreads automatically, and you refine every page in a layer-based editor before exporting print-ready files. The current version, LAYON 2, runs on Windows and Mac.
- Automatic album generation from your selected photos, with layouts you can regenerate, cycle or pick from templates.
- Layer-based editing: movable and lockable layers, text with fonts and shadows, solid, gradient and photo backgrounds, borders and PNG masks, per-photo black and white, fade and shadow.
- Print awareness: bleed and safe zones, custom page sizes, and album templates read from a lab's PSD guides.
- Export to JPEG, PNG, TIFF or print-ready PDF, with no watermark.
- Client approval: send the client a private review link from LAYON; they approve or comment on each spread, and you get the feedback by email.
- LAYON ART: album templates and collages, free and paid, that open in LAYON and take your photos (getlayon.com/art).
What LAYON is not
- Not a mandatory subscription. A monthly plan exists, but you can also pay once for life, or per album.
- Not a cloud service. Album design and export run locally on your computer; your photos are not uploaded to design or export an album. Only the client-approval feature sends preview images online, and only when you use it.
- Not a photo editor or a culling tool. It expects your selected, edited photos.

Who makes it
LAYON is developed and published by AFVMEMORIES SRL, a company registered in Romania. It was created by a working wedding and event photographer, out of his own album workflow, and is developed on the feedback of the photographers who use it. The story is on the Why LAYON page. Common questions
How much does LAYON cost?+
The first 3 albums are free. Then there are three ways to pay: 3 album credits for 15 € + VAT (one credit lets one album out, credits never expire), 9.99 € + VAT / month for every album while you subscribe, or 199 € + VAT once for LAYON 2 for life. Designing and saving albums is always free; a plan is needed only to export an album or send it to a client for review.
Does LAYON run on Mac?+
Yes. LAYON 2 runs on Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit) and macOS 12 Monterey or later (Apple silicon and Intel). One account works on 2 computers at the same time, Windows and Mac mixed. LAYON for Mac is new: until Apple has finished reviewing the developer account, macOS asks you to confirm once that you want to open it.
Is LAYON a subscription?+
Only if you want it to be. The monthly plan is a subscription you can cancel at any time; the license for life (199 € + VAT, paid once) and the album credits are not.
Does LAYON design the album automatically?+
Yes. You import a folder of selected photos and LAYON generates the album spreads automatically. You then refine every page in a layer-based editor: layers, text, backgrounds, masks, borders and per-photo adjustments.
Are my photos uploaded to the cloud?+
No. Album design and export run locally on your computer. Only the optional client-approval feature sends preview images online, when you choose to send a review link to a client.
Does LAYON work offline?+
Designing and exporting run locally. An internet connection is needed to sign in and for periodic license checks; LAYON keeps working for about 7 days without a connection after the last successful check. An album already let out exports again offline.
What does LAYON export?+
JPEG, PNG, TIFF and print-ready PDF, with bleed and safe zones, custom page sizes and lab templates read from PSD guides. There is no watermark.
I bought LAYON 1.x. Do I pay for LAYON 2?+
No. A LAYON 1.x license works in LAYON 2 too, on Windows and Mac, for life. LAYON 1.x keeps working and keeps receiving its updates.
Who makes LAYON?+
AFVMEMORIES SRL, a company registered in Romania, founded by a working wedding and event photographer. Payments are processed by Paddle as Merchant of Record.
